The World Summit for Social Development, Copenhagen, March At the World Summit for Social Development, Governments reached a new consensus on the need to put people at the centre of development. The Social Summit was the largest gathering ever of world leaders at that arters: New York, USA. The special session marks the fifth anniversary of the World Summit for Social Development, that was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, a conference that decidedly promoted the social development. The World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), held in Johannesburg, South Africa, was the fourth major conference on the environment and sustainable development in a period of thirty conference came at a moment when most of the indicators of sustainable development in industrialised countries reached historical depths, in particular, biodiversity indicators and sustainable.
